Frequently asked questions
What is SHLD?
SHLD is a discreet anti-theft tracker designed specifically for skis and other outdoor equipment.
Unlike general-purpose trackers, SHLD is built for mountain conditions: cold, snow, moisture, and impact. The tracker is permanently mounted to your skis and works seamlessly with the Apple Find My or Android Find My network. This allows you to locate your skis without a subscription, without an extra app, and without relying on GPS or mobile networks.
How does SHLD work?
SHLD uses Bluetooth Low Energy and connects to the Apple Find My or Android Find My network.
When your skis are moved or misplaced, nearby smartphones within this network anonymously and securely relay their location. You can then view this location directly in the Find My app on your own phone.
No active internet connection is required on the tracker itself.
Does SHLD work in extreme cold and snow?
SHLD is designed for real mountain conditions.
The tracker is IP67 waterproof, impact-resistant, and tested to perform reliably in temperatures down to −40°C. Rain, snow, ice, and rapid temperature changes are no problem.
Do I need a subscription or extra app?
No. SHLD is a one-time purchase.
There are no subscription fees, no hidden costs, and no separate app. You simply use the official Apple or Google Find My app that’s already on your phone.
How long does the battery last?
SHLD is designed for long-term use without daily charging.
The built-in battery lasts an average of 12 to 24 months, depending on usage and environmental conditions. Recharging is simple via a standard USB-C port, with no special cables or accessories required.
This ensures SHLD remains reliable season after season, without maintenance or hassle.
How accurate is the SHLD location?
In general, the location accuracy falls within 20 meters. Accuracy improves when more smartphones are nearby, resulting in more frequent and more precise location updates. In quieter or more remote areas, the location shown reflects the most recent update.
When you’re close to your skis, you can also play a sound on SHLD to pinpoint their exact position.
How does SHLD protect my privacy?
Your privacy comes first.
SHLD uses the official Apple and Google Find My networks. Location data is anonymous, encrypted, and only visible to you. SHLD cannot be tracked by others and does not collect any personal data.
What makes SHLD different from other trackers?
SHLD is designed specifically for outdoor gear and mountain use. Not as a general-purpose tracker. Unlike many standard trackers, SHLD is built to handle cold, snow, moisture, and impact, and is tested to perform reliably in temperatures down to −40°C.
SHLD attaches permanently and discreetly to your skis or gear using a strong adhesive mount, rather than relying on clips or keyrings that can break or get in the way. Once installed, it stays out of sight and out of mind.
Instead of using GPS or a proprietary app, SHLD works directly with the official Apple Find My and Android Find Hub networks. This means you don’t need a subscription, a separate app, or a mobile data connection on the tracker itself. Location updates are provided anonymously through millions of nearby devices worldwide.
In short, SHLD focuses on one thing: reliable, low-profile tracking for real outdoor conditions — without added complexity.
Can I only use SHLD for outdoor usage?
No. While SHLD is designed to perform in rough outdoor conditions, it can also be used on other valuable items such as laptops, cameras, and travel gear. SHLD works just as reliably in everyday environments like offices, cafés, airports, or shared spaces. It provides the same peace of mind beyond the mountains.
